What this tool does

PlugCost estimates what a licensed electrician is likely to charge to install a Level 2 (240-volt) home charger, before hardware. It works from public install benchmarks by state, then adjusts for how far the charger sits from your panel, where it goes, and whether your panel is likely to need a subpanel. It does not quote you, inspect your home, or include the charger itself. Install quotes vary because every house is different: the age and capacity of your panel, the wiring route, whether walls or trenches have to be opened, permit rules in your town, and how busy local electricians are. Treat the range as a sanity check against a real quote, not a price. If a quote lands far outside this range in either direction, that is your cue to ask the electrician why.
